I'm planning a game using SAGA edition, that takes place in the Milky Way Galaxy (Check the General board for more information...it's not hard to find given the title). Anyway because of the Campaign setting, Starships from the book don't quite fit, and I'm having trouble converting the freighters, and Transports (just doesn't seem to be enough Emplacement points to put all the systems they need in there), and also having trouble figuring out the encounter levels for any of the ships (civilian and military). Can anyone help...PLEASE!!!

Converting the ships isn't the problem, it's getting them anywhere near what they were in the previous edition. It just seems like SAGA edition wants to punish you for not using the pre-made ships in the guide. They tell you how to build an original design...but don't give you nearly the emplacement points that the other ships seem to have. I tried to convert one ship, which in Revised Edition, had enough emplacement points left over to make it unique to the owner. Only to just barely have the emplacement points under SAGA rules to get the basic systems in, and that's after removing escape pods (Which oddly the book says are MANDATORY, but few ships have them), increasing the amount of crew needed to operate the ship, lowering the amount of passengers, and other things to make the ship 'worse' (compared to the stock ship stats I was given). I mean this was supposed to be a ship that could be 'customized' (One person could invest the unspent EP, to increase the cargo hold, another could invest points to turn the cargo hold, into a fully stocked sickbay, and another could spend the extra points to make the transport able to hold it's own against a military frigate), but under SAGA rules it'll never be.
Encounter Level I could care less about, but a party would get really PO'd if they blew up a starship, and got no Experience from it.

I would eyeball encounter levels and, depending on the rest of the tech level of the game, nudge the EL up a point or two accordingly.

That's the problem the book doesn't cover it enough to figure out an encounter level...just tells you what it is, and how much experience to award the players...that's it...It's like they figured the GM's always going to use that setting, and not just the system.
