So, I and several others I know are very fond of the Star Wars Saga Edition system, and feel that it's one of the best set-ups for the d20 system out there. I feel it does a lot to simplify and smooth out the kinks of 3.5e without going quite so far as 4e. So here's what I want to ask - how would you guys convert Saga mechanics to a D&D system? I'd like us to think about Talents and Feats and all that sort of thing, as well as how we might streamline the magic system without going completely nuts on it and stripping it down completely. I think I can get at least one person to agree that save-or-die has to go [Lookin' at you, WK]
I'd like us to consider how we would handle the most classic races [Human, Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, etc] and the most classic classes [Fighter, Wizard, Rogue, Cleric, maybe Paladin and Sorcerer] first, as well as the base behind the system so that we can convert out the other classes as needed. But as the iconic races/classes, I figure they'd be the first to focus on and the easiest to think of talent trees for.

I'd probably do the same with spells that SAGA does with Force powers. just turn spell casting into a class skill, and turn the spells into cards. I wouldn't force a player to take a specific feat like SAGA does to get these spells, but that's in a nutshell what I'd do.

D&D + Saga = 4th Edition, and most everybody hates it.
D&D 4 did with spells exactly what Saga did with Force Powers, and then took it a step further by giving everybody cool things to do during combat so nobody had to feel like they're useless.
Personally, I'd rather see Saga get more like 4th Edition, than D&D get more like Saga.

I know a lot of people who hate 4th Edition. In fact one of my friends was in the RPGA, and dropped out when they went 4E, another friend refused to be a judge there because of that same reason. I haven't played D&D 4th Edition, and not really sure if I want to since I heard they removed my favorite class, Ranger (Now I can't make my D&D equivalent to the Green Beret...), and according to someone I talked to, they have it set up to where if you don't check their website every so often your character becomes outdated...is that true???

Rangers are still DEFINITELY in there - I'm fairly certain they're in one of the PHBs. And as far as the other thing goes, errata are all over the place for any system. Yes, 4e has errata, but have you ever looked at the sheer hideous stack of 3.5e errata? It's no worse and probably much better on that account. I think the only major errata is the one for Stealth, and that's because the Stealth skill was poorly explained in the first PHB.
