Or Eberron: DDDDC, or possibly Eberron: 4DC
The life of an adventurer is not necessarily a glamorous one, despite what the Sharn Inquisitive would lead you to believe. Its not all expeditions to Xen’drik and living the high life, it’s a nebulous legally gray ambiguously weird world full of just as many thugs and self-styled “mercenaries” as there are legitimate heroes. You are adventurers, and you get the job done. The job isn’t always nice, and it isn’t always fun, but its there, and it’ll get done.
Brief Sidebar: “Mature Content?”
I’m going to leave this open depending on player taste, but I would be fine dealing with more mature social issues (sex, extreme violence, etc.) The noir influences of Eberron could make the game less like the Maltese Falcon and more like post-noir like the ultra-violent Sin City or the decidedly ambiguous Chinatown. Sex would not be described in detail (other than occurring) or depicted, and no mechanics will apply to it unless they are relevant to the plot, and even then, it wouldn’t be described (I have an idea how to make it work mechanically, but I really would rather not...) Drug use, similarly, would stop at illegal real world drugs, although analogous substances like Dreamlily might pop up.
Character Creation:
* 30 point buy, full starting gold for equipment, level 1 3.5 characters. Allowed books: I actually have access to all the D&D 3.5 books and Eberron books, and they’ll be acceptable except for Unearthed Arcana and any 3.0 materials that don’t have a 3.5 equivalent. One restriction: Tome of Battle material (classes, feats, etc.,) are available after 1st level (i.e. 2nd and on.) Forgotten Realm material might be allowed in a case-by-case basis, if it makes sense for the setting. Other material (Dragon magazines, 3rd party stuff) will generally not be, but don’t be afraid to ask. However, one prestige class definitely allowed is the Child of Khyber prestige class found here.
* Before starting play I plan on putting together a sort of “rehearsal” thread discussing how the characters know one another (however tenuously that may be.) Participating will warrant some pre-game experience.
* Questions/comments/etc.? Post here, and we’ll discuss them! Or PM me if it’s of a more personal nature.
