It's a good system, but they spread out the useful stuff over so many books it's kind of ridiculous. You can make it work great with Saga, but there's always a few talents or feats or force powers from another book you'd want. Speaking of... I'm thinking of taking the Tech Specialist feat at some point. Is that kosher? |

Tech Specialist is totally fine. I've used and enjoyed it myself in the only long-lasting Saga game I was in as a player.

I've only got the main book. Will I be OK with that, or should I try and pick up some of the other books? Is there anything particularly focussed on Scoundrels?

Yessir.
Manticore; only having the core book shouldn't hinder you too much. There were a few odd omissions from that book, but its plenty to play the game from (the two really long running games I've played in used only the core book and Starships of the Galaxy)

Okay; I'm going to toss a few extra pieces of equipment that I hadn't thought of (comlink, holster for the atlatl, and a few energy cells; do I need to purchase a new bag to hold the energy balls?).

I don't think you need to worry about buying a bag (seems like the sort of thing you could pick up anywhere).
I do think its kind of funny your character is going to be running around with a bag of grapefruit sized energy bombs, though...
