First off, Happy New Year, everybody! Here’s to 2010 being even better than 2009! I know things are slow right now, with everybody in the throws of their post-Holiday and New Years stuff. But I have some ideas I want to at least get floating around there for those interested.
After the holidays I have my Eberron game that’s hopefully going to be getting off the ground. But I have a bunch of ideas for games. I kind of want to test the waters and see what grabs people’s interest. So, the following five ideas will be somewhat rudimentary pitches for different games (all of them, oddly, in different systems.) I’ll put a poll up as I get them all down so people can vote for what they like best. We can also discuss them after I get all of them up.
If getting the required reading material is an issue, I have access to what’s required for sure if you’re playing, and have plans to get that for you guys if you need it.
Exalted: The Light is Coming
The Scarlet Throne lies empty. All of Creation hangs in the balance. You are the brave men and women, reincarnated heroes of old, who will save the world from the forces of evil. You are the Exalted, chosen of the Unconquered Sun, of the Everchanging Moon, the five maidens of the Constellations, or descended from the elemental dragons, or the imprisoned Yozi primordials or Neverborn themselves. The Loom of Fate spins five lives into a mighty thread that could save Creation…
This will be an Exalted 2nd Edition game, the tone will be a mix of shonen anime melodrama, sword and sorcery cynicism, and touches of epic mythology. As I mentioned above somewhat floridly, I have no problem with a mixed circle game (I have rules for the Celestial, Lunar, Sidereal, Dragonblooded, Infernal and Abyssal Exalted, and could get my hands on some other stuff as necessary.) An initial step in the game, besides coming up with concepts, would be how your characters previous incarnations may have (or might not) known each other, your characters may have been friends, enemies, lovers, or possibly family in a past life.
New World of Darkness: Hella on Earth
Five friends in San Francisco meet up after a long time, only to find themselves in the darker shadows of the World of Darkness. The supernatural may strike in different ways, driving the characters through certain experiences (and into certain templates) even as they find themselves trying to navigate the interconnecting spider-webs of the inhumanity that lurks invisible in the darkness. Will they succumb or will they thrive, and can friendships of such different creatures truly last?
Star Wars: Reign of Terror
Yoda told Luke Skywalker if he did not stay and finish his training then only darkness would lie in his path, he would not be ready to face. He did not listen, he chose to confront Vader and his Emperor half-cocked. He lost a hand, but that’s not all he lost. Even though the Rebellion seemed to succeed, the Emperor was overthrown, and his Empire fragmented, the victory would only be short-lived.
The darkness that lingered in Luke’s heart could not be ignored, but it was at first. He thought himself the last of his kind, a champion of a forgotten era, it let his heart harden, and that was all the dark side needed to slowly worm its way closer into his heart. He made his way into politics, he became elected Chancellor, and the Republic found itself in a battle with the Imperial Remnant. Chancellor Skywalker and his generals are engaged in an intense battle even as he begins training the next generation of Jedi. But something is going wrong. They are less guardians and more brutes, less consulars and more manipulators, less sentinels and more assassins. But surely, those around him whisper, the Jedi who slew the Sith could not have fallen to the Dark Side? Does he even know if he did?
This is a story about a group who finds itself caught in the middle of the conflict in the Outer Reaches, where the Empire and the Republic are also challenged by Fringe elements. But destiny has a larger hand to play in these affairs…
Scion/MURPG: Divine Mandate
There are extradimensional beings in the 616 Marvel Universe that some might classify as gods. They don’t stand out as strongly as the mutants, the superscientists, the Cosmic creatures, or the aliens, but they’re there; the staid gods of Egypt, the hedonistic Greeks, the brave gods of Asgard, the Voodoo Loa. This is a story about demigods, people born with a tiny fraction of divine power, perhaps indirectly (a piece of the Aesir’s essence lost after Ragnarok) or directly (from the actions of a lothario like Zeus.)
Characters will make sheets according to Scion, which will be used as the basis for a MURPG CAD. The game will be played with MURPG, but experience will be used to improve the Scion sheet. As you pick up new talents and improve abilities on the Scion sheet, your CAD will be modified accordingly.
This is more an excuse for me to pit plausible demigods against Marvel characters than anything else.
Champions of the Omniverse
MURPG rules (possibly my stuff in the retread thread.) In a sentence: Kingdom Hearts meets Exiles meets Sliders wrapped up in the Rule of Cool. A group of heroes from many different realities is linked to the Tallus, and sent around the Omniverse to protect those worlds from an otherworldly darkness that corrupts everything. They’ll make friends, and enemies, and possibly acquire new powers and skills along the way.
