A couple of my influences that I’m pulling on as I find myself brainstorming for this game: Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. “NEXTWAVE is not about Character Arcs and Learning About Morals and Hugs. It is about cramming an insane movie into 44 pages at a time. It is about the mad things underpinning Marvel Comics – SHIELD, [expletive], [expletive] – and it is about special effects out of Asian cinema and absurd levels of destruction and a skewed sense of humor and Spectacle and things blowing up and people getting kicked. It is especially about THINGS BLOWING UP and PEOPLE GETTING KICKED.” - Warren Ellis, Nextwave Pitch Tengen Toppen Gurren Lagann If for no other reason than, with only some name changes, Exalted is probably the best setting to run a Gurren Lagann RPG. In short, if we aren’t living at the corner of Rule of Cool and Crazy Awesome I will thoroughly blame myself. Basically any tropes related to Rule of Cool should at least be fair game. In terms of game styles, as based on the core rulebook’s variations, as tempting as “And I’ll Form the Head” and “Project: Exalt” are (and they really are,) I’m going to stick to “Vanilla” with possible dips into other styles as necessary.

Semi-House Rule: Backgrounds can be improved for 3*Dots experience, and/or given out during play (or could be built or upgraded by a character with appropriate Craft skills.) Experience-related backgrounds will be considerably safer than awarded backgrounds (an awarded relic or fortune will have more of a chance of being lost than one improved by experience.)

If you play, say, an Eclipse-caste Solar Warstrider Pilot Martial Arts-focused character, I would not be upset.
"I'm the Exalted of the Unconquered Sun! Just who the hell do you THINK I AM?!!!!!" (Spend huge amount of Peripheral Essence.)

Haha, Warstriders. So awesome. So impractical.

Im still reading the book, so forgive me for not knowing what all i'll need... but as I read on, im thinking of creating a very monk-ish sort of character. Focused on martial arts, glory and of course, to quote master kamina "FIGHTING SPIRIIIITTT!!!" "do you hear it? This peerles right fist of mine is crying out. It's unwavering din cuts through the tide of destiny and lights the path to glory!"

Hunt down Scroll of the Monk. There's nothing wrong with Solar Hero Style, persay, but I find it's just not very interesting. Some of the styles in Imperfect Lotus are wayyyy more fun. Plus Golden Janissary is pretty sweet for owning demons and Fair Folk [and as mentioned before, Fair Folk are nasty opponents]

Getting ahold of the books. But im trying to get through the core first of all *Actually read one of the storytelling books, and was interested in a sidereal... but figured it might be better to start Solar, and less 'sneaky' based on your ideas so far-

Sidereals make killer martial artists from what I've been reading too. You could make a Chosen of Mars and/or Saturn crazy Martial Artist.

Also, there's a little aside in the Core book about reasons for getting teams together. Depending on the team background, I intend on doing a mix of these approaches.

Random Dragonblooded idea:
Crackling Ash of House Cathak Concept: Bitter Immaculate Order Drop-out Motivation: Prove Herself a Master Martial Artist Exaltation: Dragon-Blooded Caste: Fire Anima: Swirling gray smoke with sparks; become immune to fire and bursts into flame for scene. Touch inflicts (Essence) dice of lethal fire damage.

Born to House Cathak and disgusted with the decadence she encountered, Crackling Ash served the Immaculate Order as an Anathema Hunter, only to find further weirdness and ambiguity. She has left the Order to seek her true meaning, which she believes, in part, is through mastering the Immaculate Dragon forms.

Another tone-setting quote about Exalted I stole from TVTropes found:
"Exalted is a game where one of your main antagonists is Death, Creator of the Underworld. Except there's several of him, probably six or seven. Oh, and he's got 13 dread henchmen, one of whom was probably you at some point in time. Also, Hell has a personal grudge against you this time. Did I mention Magical America regularly trains and sends ninjas out for you personally? Ninjas specially trained in ass-kicking? Which, if they won't work, they keep giant robotic suits of armor on reserve for. Oh, and the Transformers have united under Omicron, and are invading. The Jedi have corrupted Heaven and usurped your rightful place as the Masters of Everything. Your ex-wife just dropped by, and she's a two thousand year old shape-changing man-eating monster now, interested in maybe going on a date next Thursday. Your best friend from your last life and while growing up now seeks to cover all the lands of Middle Earth in darkness, if he can just find this damn ring. And your God has the world's biggest crack habit, and needs some serious rehab." — Darius Solluman

Hey, what kind of points to I start off with in this system? I finished reading core, breezing over the warstriders, and all.. but now trying to create some bare bones concepts, I realize I dont know how much i'm working with here. XD

It's covered in Chapter 2, for Solars, anyway. In short: first come up with your concept. You prioritize your Physical, Mental, or Social Attributes and gain 8, 6, or 4 points to improve them (each stat starts at 1 and can go as high as 5.) Then you come up with your Caste and Favored Abilities, you have 10 dots you have to spend on those, and 25 points you have to spend on all Abilities (all of them start at 0, you can only improve one up to 3 before bonus points.) You get 7 dots of Backgrounds (max 3 in any one background before bonus points.) You get 10 Charms, 5 must be linked to Favored or Caste Abilities. Your Virtues all start at 1, you have 5 points to improve all of them, a single Virtue can't exceed 4 without Bonus Points. You'll also choose your Virtue Flaw around then. Then, you'll record some derived and/or static values (your Willpower, your Essence values, intimacies, and Health levels.) After that, you get 15 bonus points you can use to improve stuff beyond that (how many bonus points are required to improve what are covered on page 85. The sidebar on page 76, "keeping your character alive" is pretty helpful as well.)
Hopefully, that helps!

Yeah, I noticed now. XD working with a new system, the primary problem is trying to break your reliance of the older systems. -Nods-
Thanks though too!
