Man, why is bodyguard a prestige class in this setting?

I think you're confusing Advanced and Prestige Classes.
In Modern, the Base Classes are very broad, allowing characters to be loosely defined while they find a focus. Advanced Classes are a focused form of these, so you would "Bodyguard" or "Martial Artist." The Prestige Classes (which I won't be using) are specialized beyond these into more advanced, thus more specific, roles.

Dont get me over semantics, any class that cant be chosen at start is prestige by default. Some are just more prestige then others, is all. But it still boggles my mind- why bodyguard of all people?

Ha, sorry, I thought it was a legitimate mix-up!
But there was a PrC for Bodyguard in SW d20, so I guess there's precedence.

Alright, I'm going to set a deadline of December 14th for this. It's a ways away, but that's my last day of finals, so it feels like a good time to start up a game. Right now I've received two sheets, which is enough for me, but more wouldn't be a bad thing at all!

I think this is three posts in a row, but... oh well? DK, do you mind?
Anyway, I have a friend who is interested, so he'll probably be playing in this!

hello, I am the friend of Brainstem. I'm in the middle of rolling my character up, but he's going to be a tough character. He's a school resource officer (i.e. the cop who taught your D.A.R.E.) class who is a little oblivious, but he's seen a lot in his time. He works at a school in a kind of rough neighborhood, so he's used to taking a lot of gruff from everyone. But he got into the job for the right reasons, he wants to protect the kids and make a difference in his little corner of the universe.

alright I think I've got my guy all sussed out. I'm thinking about switching out personal firearm proficiency for light armor proficiency though. I'm a little nervous about becoming a melee centric character, there don't seem to be too many feats to make up for the fact that most weapons are 1d6 versus most ranged weapons being 2d6.

I think the Martial Artist Advanced Class gives you improved unarmed damage, but at any rate, I wouldn't really worry about it either way. An extra die of damage really isn't that big of a deal, and there are always ways to get your damage up in every d20 system I've ever used.

True that. I guess I am a little nervous because I am not terribly experienced with d20 games, and when I have played it's rarely been anyone that was physical combat oriented. Maybe I just need to examine the rules and feats list a little more closely. I think I might be able to pull off something with some of the feats that revolve around brawl.
